Client Ask…
Made By Kippen is a local maker and retailer in Charlotte, NC. They make cement housewares including planters, candles, soap dishes, and platers. Kippen’s main objective for this project was to have a collection of images that highlight the unique, hand-poured quality of her products in a lifestyle setting. Usage for the imagery produced would include printed marketing material such as mailers, as well as social media, and e-commerce platforms.
Look and Feel
I created a visual concept that was akin to mid-century modern design. Clean lines and uncluttered spaces allowed for visual cohesion between set and product. I maintained a neutral black, grey, and green color palette to keep the focus on the product. The material composition of the product inspired the usage of cement tiles, stone, and other natural hard surfaces.
Creating Atmosphere
Adding in some atmosphere, with a focus consistently on the product, allows for a lived-in narrative. This outdoor dining story sets an inviting tone and encourages the coming together of friends and family. Such intimate moments depicted in marketing not only sell the product but the emotion the product carries.
In the Details
The handmade quality of the product adds an unmeasurable value. I was sure to capture some of the uniqueness of the various products by highlighting textures and imperfections.
